      Book Essential This little book provides an invaluable introduction to the process of devising research questions. It would be useful to read it early on as you begin to shape your questions.

    3. Educational research and inquiry: qualitative and quantitative approaches - Dimitra Hartas 2010

      Book Essential This book is an edited volume with chapters written by different authors who have a particular expertise in that area of research. Part 1, spanning chapters 1-4, provides a useful overview to thinking about research as inquiry. There are also specific chapters which might be relevant, including action research (chapter 8), researching with children in case studies (chapter 10) researching classroom interaction (chapter 11).

    4. Doing your Research Project: A guide for first-time researchers - Judith Bell, Stephen Waters 2014

      Book Essential This book provides a useful guide for you to follow through each stage of the research process. It is written in a very accessible style. NB: Earlier editions of this book by Bell are also available in the library and useful.

    5. Research Methods for Education - Peter Newby 2009

      Book Essential This is a book written explicitly for the novice researcher and would be a very useful guide for you during both modules. It is structured around a mixed method approach and follows the phases of examining the context for research, collecting data, analysing data and concluding research.

    6. Good Research Guide, The: For Small-Scale Social Research Projects - Martyn Denscombe 2011

      Book Essential New 2017 edition due October. Other editions are also useful and are available in the library. Denscombe has written a number of other research texts which you would find helpful.

    7. Research Methods in Education - Louis Cohen, Lawrence Manion, Keith Morrison 2011

      Book Essential This is a useful reference guide to a whole host of research approaches. It has a chapter on action research (chapter 14) and another on case study (chapter 11). The opening sections provide an introduction to research that may be of use to you in appreciating the overarching requirements of research. NB: Other editions of this book are also available and useful.
